TENUTA DI MARCIANELLA
Marcianella lies in the southern part of
the province of Siena, in the township of Chiusi . It comprises
450 hectares of land, which over the centuries have been primarily
dedicated to cereal crops and to the Chianina cattle which
are indigenous to the area.
The family has been running it since the mid-1700s: in that
period the spirit and capability of our ancestors so impressed
the Grand Duke of Tuscany that he bestowed the status of nobles
to our Bonci Casuccini forebears, thus recognizing their enormous
merits of morality and entrepreneurship. The old agricultural
structure with peasant sharecroppers petered out only in the
mid-1960’s, and has since been completely revised to
make way for a modern farm with quality as its objective.
The amount of land dedicated to cereal crops has been reduced,
and the care lavished upon them has produced wheat, durum
wheat and corn/maize of absolute excellence. We have overhauled
the olive groves. We have emphasized a local tree, the minute
olive, for its known capacity to produce oil which is exceptionally
pleasant on the palate, thanks in part to its characteristic
self-limitation in the quantities it produces. We have identified
land highly qualified for vineyards: in the past ten years
we have gradually planted 20 hectares of vineyards with purple
grapes of high-quality cultivars. The results have been exceptional.
Now we have decided to try planting some vineyards with green
grapes at Marcianella. That is our next step in renovation
and innovation, one we hope to celebrate with our clients.
