The farm’s history is intertwined with that of the
Bindi Sergardi family from the sixteenth century onwards.
A handsome sketch by Ettore Romagnoli, a Sienese painter of
some fame, portrays the villa on the farm, describing it as
the place of good retreat for Monsignor Achille Sergardi,
Ambassador for the Republic of Siena to Carlo V and also Bishop
of Massa and Populonia, after the siege with which Carlo V
conquered the city of Siena, causing the end of the Republic
and establishing the dominion of the de’ Medici family
over Siena.
Today the villa at I Colli is still the family residence,
while the farmhouse houses the offices for the entire Bindi
Sergardi group. The I Colli farm, circa 200 hectares in the
township of Monteriggioni, has traditional vineyards with
Sangiovese as the predominant grape varietal. The olive groves
of Correggiolo produce Chianti olive oil, the best in the
world.
